Buckle my head
Huston found this tape measure in our house over the weekend and after examining it and noticing the metal ends, his request was for us to "buckle my head." Unsure of exactly how to accomplish this, Clarke tied it around his head. This seemed to satisfy him.
Pajamas on? Check. Teeth brushed? Check. Head buckled? Check. We're ready for bed.

Arden: 3 months
So my little baby turned 3 months on the 15th. She is getting cuter and more interactive every day! Here are a few things that have been going on with her.
- Hands: Arden has truly discovered her hands and often draws them into her face to suck on them. If her paci falls out, she’ll bring her hands up to try and push it back in. She has just recently begun to try to bat at the toys on her mat, too.
- Sleeping: Most of the month has been marked by her waking once a night, usually around 3 or 4. At the beginning of the month she had a 3 night stretch of sleeping through the night, and she has successfully slept through the night a couple of other random nights. Hopefully that means we’re getting close! Though nap times fluctuate, she seems to be moving toward two longer naps and a short one late in the day before bedtime.
- Eating: This month marked a transition between eating every three hours to every four hours. Generally, she eats around 7, 11, 3, and 7, and then I wake her again at 10 pm for one last feeding.
- Illness: She got her first ear infection this month. I spent three hours with her waiting to be seen in the urgent care clinic at Cook’s Children’s this past Friday the 12th. She’s feeling better now, but it was quite sad.
- Laughing: The cutest thing she has been doing lately is giving us little laughs. It’s so adorable to hear her little inhale when she’s super happy.
- Favorites: Arden still loves her baths and never ever cries during them. She sometimes sticks out her tongue and her eyes get big as she enjoys the water being poured over her. She loves her daddy and saves her happiest faces and laughs for when he’s playing with her. She likes to be up where she can see all the action and is most likely to cry if you lie her down on her back after you’ve been holding her or playing with her.

Snow! Again!
Huston convinced me to let him play in the gorgeous snow this morning, in spite of his lingering ear infection. How could I refuse him when it’s such a rare event? He had a lot of fun, until he fell down and got too cold. Now we’re inside nice and warm again and he’s playing with his battery powered Thomas the Train engine and laughing hysterically as he makes it go under the couch, around obstacles, and crashing into various objects.
By the way, I convinced my “little boy who hates things on his head but who loves numbers” to wear his hat by showing him that it had the number 12 on it. Worked like a charm. Maybe I should only buy hats with numbers on them from now on.

And his favorite word is…
This is my beautiful son
He is smart and handsome and wonderful and amazing. And his favorite word is “no.” Yesterday, in no particular order, I heard “No nap. No bedtime. No home. No Arden. No sandwich. No Walgreens. No milk. No kleenex. No humidifier. No cover.” And I’m sure many more that I’m forgetting. Then, well past 10 last night, we hear him yelling from his room “No! No! Nooooooooo! No chapstick! (long pause) No! No Mommy! (another long pause) No Daddy!” It’s like he just hadn’t said “no” quite enough during the day and had to get a few more out before he went to sleep.
Yesterday he sang “A, B, C, D…” and looked at me expectantly, so I sang “E, F, G.” He promptly yelled “No! Don’t say E, F, G.” I agreed to not sing it, and he again sang “A, B, C, D…” and looked at me expectantly, but I said nothing, as per my instructions. In spite of my silence he again yelled, “Don’t say it! Don’t say E, F, G.” This process repeated itself a number of times. It was awesome.
By the way, please excuse the boogery nose and disheveled hair in the above picture. Huston’s been sick with the beginnings of an ear infection and is just now on the mend with the help of antibiotics. He slept until 10:30 yesterday morning (a sure sign he wasn’t feeling well). When he woke up, as I was changing his diaper, he deliberately closed his mouth and took a deep breath in through his nose. Then he yelled jubilantly “You closed your mouth!” The poor boy was thrilled to finally be able to breathe in through his nose.
Here’s one final picture of Huston playing with Arden on her mat last month.
He continues to be a great big brother, although a few signs of sibling rivalry have been showing up lately. Like yesterday, for instance, when I picked up Arden after her nap to feed her and he said, “No! You don’t like Arden. Put her back in her bed.” Ahhh, I can only hope there is more of this to come. :)

Sic ‘em Bears!
Clarke and I went to Austin last weekend for a whirlwind trip to see a Baylor basketball game vs. Texas. Arden came along for the fun, but Huston got to spend the weekend with Mimi and Grandpa, which is basically like going to Disneyworld for him.
Our first stop Saturday morning was the Ikea by the new Round Rock outlets. Every girl needs to be acquainted with Ikea, right?
Then we ate lunch at one of our favorite Mexican places called Angie’s. It was heaven!
The basketball game started at 3 and it was freezing on the walk to the stadium. Poor Arden couldn’t see out of her hood most of the way.
Arden slept through most of the game, despite the insane amount of noise and the awesome excitement of a Baylor win in OT. Sic ‘em Bears!
